President's Message

Welcome to Old Dominion Electric Cooperative, based in Glen Allen, Virginia, just west of Richmond. We are a wholesale power supplier to 12 locally-owned and locally-controlled electric distribution cooperatives. These local cooperatives, in turn, serve nearly a half million homes and businesses in some of the fastest-growing areas of the Mid-Atlantic. Our member cooperatives cover about a third of the landmass of Virginia and 80 percent of the Delmarva Peninsula. Individual residences in rural areas and emerging suburbs account for over 90 percent of our customers.

Old Dominion (ODEC) is part owner of two power stations. We own half of south-central Virginia's 880-megawatt Clover Power Station, a twin-unit coal-fired plant. We also own approximately 12 percent of the nuclear-powered North Anna Power Station in central Virginia. These power stations provide more than half of the generating needs of our member cooperatives: the balance is supplied through wholesale power contractual arrangements with several other utilities.

ODEC was born out of necessity in the late 1940's to broker the best possible prices on wholesale electricity for our member cooperatives. And for half a century Old Dominion has provided outstanding service, competitive rates and innovative approaches to old problems. Using this philosophy, we have built a small rural electricity wholesaler into a billion-dollar cooperative utility.

Our mission of service remains unchanged as we approach the 21st century. However, with the current push to restructure the electric utility industry and the accompanying freedom of choice it will bring to consumers, our mission will no doubt expand, to include serving accounts in other geographic areas and providing new and innovative energy services.

The competitive advantage of electric cooperatives has always been the strong relationships we build with our customers. We intend to flourish in a competitive marketplace precisely for this reason. We are hometown utilities that know their customers and are technologically advanced enough to meet their full energy needs.

Again, welcome to Old Dominion Electric Cooperative. Enjoy perusing our home page and let us answer your questions personally at .

We are a mature company with a sense of excitement about the enormous possibilities for applying our customer-oriented business commitment to a free and open electricity marketplace.

Sincerely,
J. E. Reasor
